The crises rocking the Kogi State chapter of the All Progressive Congress has assumed a new dimension as the faction loyal to the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Friday said it has expelled members of the Hady Ametuo-led executive.

Addressing newsmen in Lokoja, the newly appointed factional Acting Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi said the expulsion was due to what it termed as the failure of the Hady Ametuo to appeal their removal within 14 days.

Ahovi said that the expulsion was with immediate effect.

Recall that the North Central Zonal Executive of the party had earlier pronounced him guilty of anti-party activities and recommended his expulsion to the national body.

Ahovi said that Ametuo led executive failed to appeal the decision within 14 days as stipulated by the constitution of the party, saying that the failure to abide by the provision meant consent.

Ahovi said that the party will not hesitate to get Ametuo arrested and charged with impersonation should he fail to stop parading himself as the state Chairman of the party.

The factional Chairman thereafter inaugurated other new state executive members of the party to replace those expelled.

Ahovi, who was until now a state Vice Chairman of the party, commended the one year extension granted the national working committee and other organs of the party, saying that the decision would enable the party to become stronger and approach the 2019 elections with determination.

However in a swift reaction, Hady Ametuo said that the Ahovi-led faction lacked the right to expel him and his members from the party.

In a telephone conversation, Ametuo described the Ahovi led faction as “ghosts.”

“They are faceless group with no authority to suspend me, let alone expel any member of the party,” he said.

He said that only the National working committee has the constitutional power to suspend or expel any party member recommended to it by the North central committee.
